Caregiver Support

If you’re helping to care for an older person or a person with a disability, you know how important that job is and how demanding it can feel. What you many not know is that Rhode Island offers many services that can provide assistance to caregivers and make life better for you.

Caregiver support groups meet at senior centers, nursing homes and adult day centers across Rhode Island. To learn about groups in your area, please call:

• The Department of Elderly Affairs at 462-4000 or "The Point" at 462-4444.

Travelers Aid Society of Rhode Island offers a 24 hour Information and Referral Service and maintains an extensive listing of support groups and community resources. Please call:

• Travelers Aid at 521-2255 or 1-800-367-2700.

 

National organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association also maintain local chapters in the state and may provide assistance and support. These numbers are also contained within the business section of your local phone book.
